The Swedish Child Neuropsychiatry Science Foundation was founded in 1994. The foundation’s main purpose is to further scientific research, developmental work and education in child neuropsychiatry with special focus on children, adolescents and certain adults with autism and autism spectrum disorders (ESSENCE).

Professor Christopher Gillberg is the chairman of the foundation and he has held the position since the foundation started.
